One of Regina's last independent book stores is closing its doors at the end of January.

'Buy the Book' on 13th Avenue has been in business for the past 18 years. It was opened by Chris Prpich and his father soon after he graduated high school.

Prpich says initially he had no idea what he was getting himself into, but his passion for selling used books eventually grew into a business.

He says he's now ready for a new challenge, though he knows it will be a big change.

"There are so many relationships, whether it is with other business owners or with other people in the community, with all the musicians that we're involved with and I really don't know how it is going to change everything, but I know it is going to be drastic," said Prpich.

He says he's going to take a break and focus more on his record company 13th Avenue Records.

The store is currently selling everything at 50 per cent off and markdowns will continue until all the inventory is gone.

There's no word yet on the future of the space.
