A new person has been arrested and charged for allegedly attacking former Roughrider Al Ford outside a Regina liquor store.

A new person has been arrested and charged for allegedly attacking former Roughrider Al Ford outside a Regina liquor store.

It happened May 12 at an SLGA outlet on South Albert around 4 p.m. CST. Police believe the suspect was attempting to steal a patron's liquor purchase just outside the doors of the store. The suspect fled before police arrived.

According to his family, Ford, 70, was repeatedly punched in the face and ended up with a broken jaw and a cracked bone around his eye.

Police initially charged a 29-year-old man in the case. However, those charges were stayed and the investigation continued.

On Thursday, police said a 22-year-old man from Regina is now before the courts over the alleged robbery.
