Nine years after Alexander Ron Sanderson was found dead on a Prince Albert-area First Nation, police have charged a man with his murder.

Curtis Daniel Nataucappo, 31, made a first appearance in Prince Albert provicial court Wednesday charged with second-degree murder.

On April 18, 2001, Sanderson, 33, was found dead on a grid road on the Mistawasis First Nation, which is about 70 kilometres west of Prince Albert.

A homicide investigation was launched, but no one was charged at the time.

However, in 2008, an RCMP historical case unit re-interviewed several witnesses and took another look at the evidence, the RCMP said.

The investigation progressed and the murder charge was laid. Nataucappo, whom police said is of no fixed address, will be back in court on the charge on Aug. 17.
