It turns out standing in the middle of a lake is not the most effective way to foil the Mounties.

Two La Loche-area men found out the hard way after running away from RCMP officers on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the men were wanted in connection with a previous incident and one of them had outstanding warrants for his arrest.

When they located the two, the men fled and the Mounties ran after them.

The two men ran into the waist-deep water of Lac La Loche. Police told them to get out, but they refused.

The RCMP then went to get them in a boat. They said they were able to drive the two back to shore — and into the waiting arms of more Mounties.

They were arrested and taken into custody without anybody getting hurt, the RCMP said.
