Mother of baby found in Wal-Mart going to trial
A Saskatchewan woman accused of abandoning her newborn baby in a toilet in a Wal-Mart is going to trial.
Following a one-day preliminary hearing Monday, a Prince Albert judge ruled there is enough evidence to try April Halkett, 21, on a charge of child abandonment.
A woman gave birth to a baby boy in the washroom of a Wal-Mart in Prince Albert in May 2007.
A customer alerted staff, and the store manager performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
The baby was taken to hospital in serious condition, but recovered and was placed in the care of child-care authorities.
The Crown says it will be at least the fall before there's a trial.
