Moose Jaw octogenarian sisters win gold at Canada 55+ Games
A pair of octogenarian sisters from Moose Jaw are making their mark in the world of seniors athletics this week.
Doreen Erskine, 87, and Gwendolyn Boivin, 80, have each taken one gold and one silver at the Canada 55+ Games in Strathcona County, Alberta.
Erskine won in the over 85 category javelin competition, on Thursday, with a 5.24 metre throw.
"I've always liked throwing the javelin since I learned to do it after 70 years old," she said.
She also took silver in the 50-metre sprint.
Her sister, who recently had both hips replaced, won gold in long jump and silver in the 100 metre sprint.
Gwendolyn Boivin said she never smoked or drank and that she eats well.
She also said she keeps up her fitness.
"We go every other day to the track out in Moose Jaw."
Boivin says in the winter she trains on an elliptical exercise machine.
