Missing girl, 10, likely perished in Witchekan Lake reserve fire, RCMP say
Positive identify not possible from autopsy of remains
A missing 10-year-old girl is presumed to have died in a devastating house fire ten days ago on the Witchekan Lake First Nation, RCMP said.
Seven other people in the home were able to get out.
The fire, which was discovered in the early hours of Mar. 2, completely gutted the home. Investigators had to wait for the hot embers to cool before they could go through the rubble.
Remains were found in the debris, but RCMP said Wednesday that an autopsy could not positively identify the person.
"There is considerable indication that the remains recovered are those of 10-year-old Iesha Star Amy Rabbitskin who was unaccounted for at the time of the fire," RCMP said.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
