A sick and injured coyote, likely infected with a serious form of mange, has been shot by police in Saskatoon following reports that the animal had been acting aggressively.
Police were called around 11:30 a.m. CST Saturday to Budz Crescent, where the animal had been noticed by resident of the area.
Police said they consulted an animal destruction specialist from the police service who confirmed the animal appeared to be suffering from a broken leg and that it was likely infected with sarcoptic mange.
The animal was euthanized by an officer using a handgun.
Police noted that it is not unusual to see coyotes and other wildlife in the city, noting that in most cases the animals are harmless and will move along if they are not approached.
