A man has been released from hospital in Regina after a house caught fire early Sunday morning.

Firefighters were called to the home on 1400 block of Athol Street just after 5 a.m. CST.

When they arrived, firefighters also found three cats and two dogs inside the burning building. They were able to pull the animals out safely.

The man was the only person inside the home. He was released from hospital the same morning.

Investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen area.

An investigator will return to the home on Monday to determine the cause of the fire.
