Regina police say a dark street is partially to blame after a man was fatally struck by a car in Regina Thursday night.
The 46-year-old was walking on Saskatchewan Drive between Toronto and Montreal streets where a street light had gone out at the spot where he stepped into traffic.
Police said the man, who was also wearing dark clothing, walked southbound across Saskatchewan Drive and was struck by an eastbound vehicle at about 8:45 p.m. CST.
The driver didn't see the pedestrian and had no time to react, police said.
The man was rushed to hospital, but died a short time later.
Police said alcohol and excessive speed do not appear to be factors in the crash.
The investigation continues.
