A man who was taken into custody after being picked up from the hospital in Prince Albert, suffered some sort of medical distress while in cells and has died, police say.

According to police, the man — whose age was not released — was taken into custody after police were contacted by hospital security around 6:35 a.m. CST Thursday.

Less than three hours later, around 9:10 a.m., police called for an ambulance because the man needed medical attention.

He was taken to hospital where police said he died a short time later.

Police did not elaborate on the nature of the complaint that led to the man being placed in police custody.

They said the incident was still under investigation and an autopsy would be done, to determine the cause of death.

No name was released.
