Saskatoon police have identified the 31-year-old man that was shot to death early Monday morning.

Macdonald Ogbonna George, who police said was an Ontario resident, was shot in the city's downtown area at about 1:50 a.m.

Police said an officer was on the 200 block of 2nd Avenue when he heard several gunshots fired.

The man was injured in the street. He was rushed to hospital where he died.

An officer on scene witnessed a vehicle flee the area.

It hit a pedestrian, who suffered non-life threatening injuries.

At least one officer shot at the vehicle, which also ended up hitting a police cruiser while trying to get away.

Four people were taken into custody.

The city's major crimes unit is working on the case.
