Police have charged a 33-year-old man from Garrick, Sask with second degree murder in connection with the death of a three-year-old boy in 2012.

Police have charged a 33-year-old man in connection with the death of a young boy who died last year. 

Shane Pashke, from Garrick, Sask., located about 32 kilometres west of Nipawin, has been charged with second degree murder. 

On Dec. 1, 2012 RCMP officers responded to a complaint of a three-year-old boy in medical distress at a rural property just south of the community of Garrick. 

The child was rushed to a hospital in Nipawin and was later transported to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. 

Police said the child underwent treatment but died on Dec. 4, 2012. 

Several days after the boy's death an autopsy was performed, including an examination by a neuro-pathologist. 

The RCMP have deemed the child's death suspicious. His name has not been released. 

The accused has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Melfort, Sask. on Monday morning. 

Police have not made clear how the boy died. They have also not said whether the boy had any kind of connection to the accused.
