Man charged in Regina Ring Road death
A 19-year-old Grand Coulee man has been charged with impaired driving causing the death of an elderly Regina man on the weekend.
The 88-year-old victim, whom police haven't identified, died after the car he was a passenger in was rear-ended on the city's Ring Road on Sunday. An 81-year old woman was also injured.
The driver of the car had slowed down to the 60 kilometre-per-hour speed limit in a construction zone on the busy roadway, when it was struck by a sport utility vehicle allegedly driven by Justin Joseph Hodel, 19.
Hodel appeared in provincial court Tuesday on five charges: impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing bodily harm, criminal negligence causing death, criminal negligence causing bodily harm and having a blood-alcohol level over .08.
Hodel has been released and is scheduled to be back in court on July 13.
