Man accused of killing cellmate appears in court
A 24-year-old man accused of murdering his cellmate at a Saskatoon jail appeared in court Wednesday morning.
Dallas Wayne Bird is charged with second-degree murder.
Police allege he killed Elvis Lachance, 28, earlier this month.
Lachance was discovered dead in his cell on Sept. 13. He had arrived at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre a day earlier to be remanded after being charged with breaking and entering and breach of probation.
Both men were in the same cell at the jail. Unlike Lachance, whose charges had yet to be dealt with, Bird was serving a sentence for robbery.
Police are still not saying how Lachance died.
Bird is scheduled to be back in court on Friday.
