A Saskatoon man is dead after being accidentally shot in the neck Saturday evening by his 13-year-old brother, RCMP say.

RCMP and an ambulance were called to a rural residence east of Warman, Sask., where they found a 24-year-old man with a single bullet wound to his neck.

First aid was attempted, but  the man died, police said.

There was a large gathering of people at the home at the time of the incident. CBC News has learned it was a church gathering held in honour of a family that was preparing for missionary work outside the country.

The 13-year-old boy, also from Saskatoon, had obtained a small-calibre rifle in the house and it discharged, striking his brother.

The matter remains under investigation by Warman RCMP, but there is no indication the shooting was intentional, police said.

The name of the victim hasn't been released.
