Man, 57, found dead in Saskatoon police cell
A man arrested last night for public intoxication has been found dead in his cell at the Saskatoon police station.
Police said the 57-year-old man was found dead at around 7:50 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said they got a call about the man on the 100 block of 3rd Ave. N. around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.
They say he was intoxicated and had three outstanding warrants for summary offences.
The coroner's office has been contacted and police are investigating, with an independent investigator from Saskatchewan Justice overseeing the case.
After being arrested, the man was taken to the detention unit at the police station where he was assessed by an on-duty paramedic, the police said.
Police said he was regularly checked on overnight by detention staff.
Police haven't said anything about the cause of death, but said more information could be released following an autopsy.
