A 35-year-old man is in hospital following a violent assault by a group of males in Regina's Central Park around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday. Police say the victim suffered life-threatening injuries but has improved since being taken to hospital.

Central Park is in a residential area south of the city's downtown core, around 14th Avenue and Scarth Street.

Police said officers were dispatched to respond to a report that a group of males were beating up a male victim.

They said the suspects involved fled as police arrived. It was not clear exactly how many were beating on the man.

Police said officers were able to take a number of people into custody. However, interviews with those people are ongoing and police were not certain about what role they played in the attack.

They said their investigation is continuing, to ensure that all suspects have been identified and located.
