Lots to do on Family Day in Saskatchewan

There are numerous ways to get out with your kids on Family Day Monday in Saskatchewan — and many of them are free activities.

There are numerous ways to get out with your kids on Family Day Monday in Saskatchewan — and many of them are free activities.

Saskatoon

There's an outdoor Family Day skate that's free of charge that runs from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. CST. It's at the Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval.

Also in Saskatoon, there's free skating at the Cameco Meewasin Rink in Saskatoon between noon and 4 p.m. CST. There'll be music, snow games and sleigh rides. And if you don't have skates, you can borrow a pair.

Also, families can head to the Lakewood Tennis Centre where everyone can test the speed of their serves free of charge between noon and four. Rackets and balls are provided.

The Mendel Art Gallery and Saskatoon Civic Conservatory will also be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.  Admission is free.

Regina

The Ice and Fire Festival concludes today with a gigantic list of activities:

All day - Dunlop Art Gallery’s Snow Gallery at Victoria Park
10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. – Amalie Atkins Exhibition at the MacKenzie Art Gallery
11 a.m. & 1:30 p.m. – Sâkêwêwak Artists’ The Distinguished Storytellers Festival 2014,  bus tour at the Regina Public Library central branch
11 a.m.-4 p.m. – Skating Saskatchewan Style exhibit at Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame
11 a.m.-4 p.m. – Regina Downtown’s free skate rental and hot chocolate at Victoria Park outdoor rink
12 p.m.-4 p.m. – Buffalo Pound Round Dance performance and jig-along at Victoria Park or Hill Tower II
1 p.m.-4 p.m. – Blanket-folding workshop and performances at the Hill Tower II
2 p.m.-4 p.m. – Harvey MacFarlane and the Sanguine Clydes: Horse-drawn wagon rides at The Plaza

The Royal Saskatchewan Museum will be also be open, offering stories and crafts for youngsters.

The Great Saskatchewan Family Skate (1-4 p.m.) is on at the Doug Wickenheiser Arena.

Over at the RCMP Heritage Centre, there are Arctic Adventures from 1-5 p.m.

That includes crafts, scavenger hunts, snowshoeing, dogsled demos, presentations on arctic policing, activity passports, prizes and more. Regular admission applies.

Hockey fans may want to take in the Regina Pats game against the Brandon Wheat Kings. That's at the Brandt Centre starting at 2 p.m.

Prince Albert 

Meanwhile, if you're in Prince Albert you can catch some events at the 2014 Winter Games which kicked off over the weekend.
