The president of the First Nations University of Canada has stepped down, saying he needs to spend time on a family health matter.

Doyle Anderson had been president of the institution since 2011.
In a news release from FNUniv, Anderson was praised as having helped bring financial stability to the university.
Juliano Tupone, the current vice-president of finance and administration was named acting president.
