Multiple people with undetermined injuries have been sent to hospital in Regina after a crash between a semi, ambulance and other vehicles on Highway 1 near Pense.

Moose Jaw and Regina firefighters remain on scene. RCMP reopened one eastbound lane to traffic at around 5:30 CST. Traffic was backed up for about five kilometres on the highway.

Fire officials say at least six vehicles are involved. The collision became a "chain reaction" on the road, where whiteout conditions are being reported during a winter storm that's hitting the south-central part of the province.

Because of deteriorating road conditions, motorists are asked to check the provincial Highway Hotline before heading out.
