Highway 1 crash

Police say it appears a car was broadsided by an SUV trying to cross the Trans-Canada Highway just east of Regina. (Dean Gutheil/CBC)

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 48 after reports of a two vehicle collision at about 6 p.m. CST. 

Police believe an SUV crossing Highway 1 broadsided a car. 

A man and a woman in the car were taken to hospital by ambulance. The driver of the SUV was not injured. 

Police closed down one lane of the highway as they investigated what happened. 

Weather is not considered to be a factor in the crash. Police said charges are pending. 

The intersection is located along the Trans-Canada Highway between Balgonie, Sask. and Regina.
