An investigation is underway following the discovery of human remains near the riverbank in Saskatoon, police say.

According to police, officers were dispatched to an area on the east end of Adilman Drive after a person reported finding human remains.

They said the area has been secured and investigators from their major crimes section along with forensic technicians were examining the scene.

The remains were that of a male. The cause of death isn't known and an autopsy will be done Friday.

No further details were released.
