Highway 2 closed north of Prince Albert as road washes away
Highway linking Prince Albert to northern Saskatchewan is washing away.
Highway 2 north of Prince Albert has been closed due to a washout of southbound lanes. Detours are in place, RCMP say.
The problem with the road is where the highway crosses over the Little Red River, about eight kilometres north of the city.
RCMP reported Friday that the bridge is fine, but the ground is eroding due to water movement and the south bound lane of the highway is collapsing.
It was not known how long the detour would be in place. Motorists are being directed onto Highway 55.
This is the second major roadway problem to hit the Prince Albert area this year. For several weeks travel south of the city has been hampered due to water on the highway.
