Heavy snow on the roof caused the collapse of a well-known building in downtown Melville Tuesday evening.

It happened around 7 p.m. CST at the former Community Publishing building on Main Street and Fourth Avenue.

No one was inside at the time.

People in town say the building was home to a hair salon and vacuum shop and was also used by Home Hardware for storage.

There have been several instances of roofs collapsing around Saskatchewan this winter because of heavy snow.

Earlier this month, the roof of a building in Saskatoon collapsed. No one was hurt.
