Firefighting crews equipped with oxygen tanks assemble outside the building early Tuesday morning.

A four-month-old baby boy and a man have died in what police say was a suspicious apartment fire in La Ronge, Sask.

A woman who lives in the four-floor apartment building in the northern town is in hospital reportedly in critical condition. Numerous other people who live in the building have been treated for minor injuries and released.

Police, fire, and ambulance crews were called to the building shortly after midnight Tuesday.

"When we arrived on scene there was smoke coming out of the fourth floor, there was people hanging out of the windows trying to get fresh air," La Ronge fire Chief Ron Pratt said.

The Saskatoon RCMP major crimes unit is at the site investigating, with assistance from a forensic identification unit from Prince Albert.
