The Saskatchewan government is giving an extra $6.6 million to eight of the province's fastest-growing school divisions.
Schools in Saskatoon and two nearby cities — Martensville and Warman — represent more than 50 per cent of the provincial enrolment growth this year, which totalled 2,300 students.
The money will be used to pay teachers as well as to buy portable classrooms.
Saskatchewan has been undergoing a population boom in recent years.
Earlier this fall, Statistics Canada reported that Saskatchewan's population grew by 22,154 over the past year — the biggest one-year jump since 1921.
The 2.1 per cent growth rate was the second highest in Canada after Alberta, where the population grew by 2.5 per cent.
