People from Stanley Mission, north of La Ronge, may start returning home as early as Tuesday, as an evacuation order has been lifted. People with respiratory ailments are being advised, however, to avoid the area due to smoke.
Officials had been moving people out of the area due to forest fires. At one point, it was feared an access road would be affected by fire and the community was in danger of being cut off.
People were given temporary shelter in Prince Albert and Saskatoon.
Conditions have since improved enough that officials say people may start to return.
About 900 people left Stanley Mission with about 600 people remaining.
