Environment minister approves Sask. uranium project
Ottawa has approved the environmental assessment of Areva's proposed Midwest uranium mine in northern Saskatchewan.
Environment Minister Peter Kent says the open pit mine is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
Areva's Midwest deposit is about 750 kilometres north of Saskatoon.
The company says it needs to complete more feasibility studies before construction begins.
Other companies in the venture include Denison Mines and OURD Canada.
