Elderly man killed in Moosomin train crash
Main Street closed for several hours
A 79-year-old man has died after his van collided with a Canadian Pacific train in Moosomin, Sask. Wednesday afternoon.
The crash happened at a railway crossing on Main Street in the community shortly before 4 p.m. CST.
Alferd Skulmoski who is from Moosomin was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the van Skulmoski was driving was heading southbound on Main Street and proceeded onto the train tracks where an eastbound train slammed into the front passenger side of the van.
Skulmoski was the only person in the vehicle. His family has been contacted and Victim Services is assisting them with the loss.
Main Street was reported blocked in the area on Wednesday night. Drivers were advised to take an alternate route as RCMP said the street would remain closed for several hours while a collision analyst examines the scene.
