An 11-year-old boy is dead after he was struck by a vehicle early Saturday night while riding a bicycle on Highway 3 near the Muskoday Bridge.
The Muskoday Bridge spans the South Saskatchewan River on Highway 3 and connects the Muskoday First Nation with Prince Albert. The first nation is located 24 kilometres southeast of Prince Albert.
The boy was with a group of children who were riding their bikes on the side of the highway when the vehicle hit him around 7 p.m. CST.
He was seriously injured and was rushed to Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert. The boy later died in hospital.
None of the other youth were injured.
RCMP arrested a 51-year-old man at the scene of the crash for impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death.
The driver is in police custody and will appear in court in Prince Albert Monday morning.
An investigation into the incident continues and more information related to the crash is expected from police.
