A man found clinging to the ice in Sandy Lake more than a year ago is believed to have been the victim of a homicide, the Saskatchewan RCMP says.
They're asking for the public's help in finding out who killed Christian Bird of the Ahtahkakoop First Nation on May 1, 2011.
Early in the morning that day, a passerby found Bird about 16 metres from shore clinging to a piece of ice.
An RCMP officer who happened to be nearby went into the icy water and pulled the unresponsive 27-year-old man to shore.
Shortly after, he was pronounced dead.
Police said they've talked to numerous witnesses, but haven't charged anyone.
They're asking people with information about the case to call the Shellbrook RCMP detachment at 306-747- 2606 or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
