A Regina city councillor is stepping out of City Hall to represent the federal New Democratic Party.

Fred Clipsham was nominated Wednesday night as the NDP nominee for the riding of Regina-Qu'Appelle riding, a seat currently held by the Conservatives.

Clipsham, who represents Ward 3 in Regina, was the only candidate for the New Democrat nomination.

He said there are many things he wants to fix.

"Housing is a huge issue," Clipsham said. "Health care, pensions for seniors and sustainable communities."

If he wins the riding he will address these issues in Ottawa, Clipsham said.

Conservative Andrew Scheer has held the seat since 2004.
