A three-year-old child from northern Saskatchewan was found dead in a lake Saturday night, shortly after being reported missing.

According to police the toddler had been reported missing at about 6:50 p.m. CST from a local home in Pinehouse, Sask.

Officers begun searching in places where the child was last seen. At about 7:35 p.m. CST police were told the child was found in the Pinehouse Lake.

The three-year-old was rushed to the community medical clinic, but was pronounced dead.

It's not clear how the child ended up in the lake, but police say no foul play is suspected at this time.

The family has asked police that the toddler's name not be released.

An autopsy has been ordered for next week.

The local RCMP and Saskatoon's Major Crime Unit continue to investigate.

Pinehouse is located about 350 kilometres northwest of Prince Albert.
