There is a very good chance many of you are reading this story on your cellphone right now. But 26 years ago, that idea would seem like science fiction.

Cellphones were just being introduced in Saskatchewan back in 1989.

They were slow to take-off, mostly because they were bulky and expensive. But even then, it was easy to see a communications revolution was brewing.

As our contribution to Throwback Thursday (#tbt), here's CBC Saskatchewan's story on the first cell phones coming to the province that originally aired on Aug. 8, 1989.

Every week, we'll be dipping into the CBC Saskatchewan video vault to find stories that were making news back in the day. If there's an old story you remember and want to see again, we want to hear from you.
