A cat is recovering and its owners are safe after a house fire in Saskatoon late Friday night.

Firefighters were called to a house on Richardson Road at about 11:21 CST.

When they arrived at the scene heavy smoke was coming from the bungalow.

The family was alerted to the fire by the smoke detector and had already gotten out safely.

Fire crews put out the fire in the basement laundry room in about 17 minutes. They also rescued the cat from the basement and administered oxygen to it.

Damage is estimated at $150,000.

The is no word on what caused the fire, but officials say it is not suspicious.
