A car-sized hole that opened up on a major Saskatoon thoroughfare was causing traffic headaches on Monday.

Police were called about the hole around 9 a.m. CST after it opened up on Idylwyld Drive just north of 39th Street.

At the scene, CBC cameraman Don Somers said the hole appears to be more than three metres long and almost as deep.

"It's quite a sinkhole," he said.

There appeared to be a broken or corroded pipe at the bottom of the hole, Somers said.

City crews are at work repairing the road.
