Calgary firm fined $14K after worker falls through hole
Workplace accident happened at Boundary Dam near Estevan, Sask.
A Calgary company has been fined $14,000 over a workplace accident near Estevan, Sask., in which a man went through a hole in the floor and fell 4.6 metres.
It happened Jan. 22, 2013, at the carbon capture project at Boundary Dam.
Last month, Sulzer Chemtech Canada Inc. of Calgary, pleaded guilty in provincial court to violating occupational health and safety rules for failing to ensure that a hole in a floor or roof is covered or protected.
The company was fined $10,000 with a $4,000 surcharge added.
According to the provincial government, the worker was injured but survived. The extent of his injuries wasn't available.
