The operators of Saskatoon's public transit system say they are having a hard time coping with traffic congestion and extra passengers.

In a news release, Saskatoon transit says bus riders may experience delays and other difficulties.

"Every September Saskatoon Transit and its customers experience an adjustment period as ridership numbers jump significantly to accommodate students returning to school and regular commuters returning from summer vacation," the release said.

The service is also hitting snags related to road construction and sewer projects.

"We expect this pressure to ease as construction season wraps up," the service said.

People may also find buses not stopping to pick up passengers. That happens when the bus is already at capacity.

The service said additional buses were being deployed to handle the "most critical" overloading and scheduling issues.
