Blue Bomber Bell injured in Saskatoon attack
Winnipeg Blue Bomber Graeme Bell is in hospital with a serious head wound after an apparent attack with a baseball bat outside a Saskatoon restaurant on the weekend.
Bell, 25, was the most seriously injured of four men hurt outside the Athena restaurant on Central Avenue on the east side of the city. The attack occurred Saturday around 2:15 a.m.
The Regina-born Bell is a former University of Saskatchewan Huskie who works in the city in the off-season. The running back has been with the Bombers since 2005.
On Monday, Bell's familyissueda public statement to thank people for their support and to sayBell is making progress in hospital.
"He is conscious, alert and understands he has the support of his family and friends," said Jennifer Bell, Graeme's sister. "We are taking this one day at a time. Our focus is Graeme's health and letting him rest."
Police said the incident was apparently a random attack and are looking for two male suspects who fled the scene afterwards.
