About 100 people braved the wet weather for a Big Yellow Taxi singalong at Connaught School Monday morning.
Dubbed the “World’s Biggest Big Yellow Taxi Mass Singalong” the group brought their guitars, drums and singing voices to kick off the Cathedral Village Arts Festival with the classic Joni Mitchell song.
Trish Elliott was in charge of this year’s heritage event for the festival and she said the singalong was meant to link heritage to the environment.
“It’s a song about how we care for things. Good stewardship, care of the earth, care of buildings, of each other and it all connects,” she said.
Past heritage events have included tours of some of the Cathedral area’s many heritage buildings, but this year the festival committee wanted to do something different, Elliott explained.
“This year we thought we would do something that more reflects the artistic goals of the festival which is to connect art to culture and this was the perfect song to connect art to culture in the heritage area,” Elliott said.
The Cathedral Village Arts Festival will include workshops and live performances all week long.
