Baby, 2-months-old, victim of 'severe' assault, RCMP say
RCMP in Kamsack, Sask., say a two-month-old child was severely injured at the end of July and has been in hospital for a month. A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
According to RCMP, the infant was taken to hospital in Kamsack, about 275 kilometres northeast of Regina and needed treatment for what were described as "severe injuries". RCMP said they were contacted on the morning of July 29 and informed of the case and officers immediately began in investigation into aggravated assault.
The child was later taken by ambulance to hospital in Regina and then Saskatoon.
On Wednesday, a 22-year-old man from the Cote First Nation was arrested and charged with aggravated assault against the baby.
RCMP did not elaborate on the nature of the injuries to the child, nor if there was any relation between the baby and the accused.
The man is set to appear in court in Yorkton Sept. 4.
