Armed man, 20, surrenders in hours-long Saskatoon standoff
Man taken to hospital, will face weapons-related charges
A 20-year-old armed man at the centre of an hours-long police standoff in Saskatoon has surrendered.
The man, who threatened to harm himself, had barricaded himself in the basement of a house in the 100 block of Avenue O South Tuesday morning.
According to police, the man had continued to occasionally discharge a firearm inside the home.
Just after 5:30 p.m. CST, police were able to enter the home after negotiators convinced the man to give himself up.
He has been taken to hospital to be assessed.
A police spokesperson said the man is facing weapons-related charges.
The tactical unit, which had remained on scene all day, began packing up soon after as they prepared to leave.
