All Sask. casinos should be Indian-run, FSIN says
The chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations says all casinos in the province should be run by First Nations.
Currently six of the casinos are operated under an umbrella-agency called the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority.
Two others, Casino Regina and Casino Moose Jaw, are run by a provincial government company, the Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation.
"We think it's time, because of market saturation, that First Nations look at being the sole operator of all provincial casinos, " Guy Lonechild, chief of the FSIN, said Tuesday. "It's a model of success because of employment opportunities and wealth and sharing wealth."
Lonechild said the topic may arise Wednesday at a meeting of the FSIN and members of the provincial cabinet.
The province says it has no plans to sell its casinos.
