Accused in flag person's death will go to trial, judge orders
The driver of an SUV which struck and killed a flag person from New Brunswick last year will stand trial for criminal negligence causing death and dangerous driving causing death, a judge in Weyburn, Sask., has ordered.
The preliminary hearing on the case was held Tuesday in Weyburn, and the judge said Keith Dunford, from Regina, will go to trial.
Ashley Dawn Richards, 18, was working as a flag person on a road crew in the Midale area on Aug. 24 when she was struck and killed. She was pregnant when she died.
Richards had recently moved to Saskatchewan from Lakeside, N.B., to start a family with Ben Diprose.
The driver of the SUV, who was 44 years old at the time, was arrested at the scene and held in custody for a day. Charges were laid following an investigation by police.
