Tougher traffic laws will come with more police officers to enforce them in Saskatchewan this summer.
Saskatchewan Government Insurance is paying for a total of 30 new police officers.
They will join another 30 existing officers who will focus on traffic safety and enforcement.
One will monitor traffic in the busy area around Saskatoon, including highways 11 and 16. The other unit will focus on the southeastern part of the province, including highways 6 and 39.
Changes to traffic laws with stricter penalties for drunk and distracted driving come into effect at the end of June.
The dedicated traffic units will focus on impaired driving, distracted driving, speeders and intersection safety.
