A 22-year-old man from North Battleford is recovering after a snowmobile crash left him badly injured on Friday night.

RCMP received a complaint of the crash shortly after 11 p.m. CST near Highway 378 north of the city.

Emergency crews found the man's hand had been severed in the accident.

According to an initial investigation by police, the machine went off a steep slope at the edge of the highway. Speed, poor visibility due to the dark, and unmarked hazards were contributing factors, they said.
