A stubborn townhouse fire at Diefenbaker Drive and Centennial Drive on the Saskatoon's west side early Monday morning caused an estimated $200,000 in damage.

The blaze at 3323 Centennial Dr. broke out just before 5:30 a.m. CST in some recently constructed, but unoccupied, townhouses near the Westgate Alliance Church.

The church wasn't touched, however.

For a while, police had a number of intersections blocked off and were advising commuters to avoid the area, but by 8 a.m., the barricades were down.

It took about 45 minutes to get the fire under control.

There were no reports of injuries.

Fire investigators are trying to find out how it started.
