2 Saskatoon snow dumps now closed, 1 remains open
The scramble to clear away snow continues, but in Saskatoon another snow dump has closed.
The City of Saskatoon says the Wanuskewin Drive site (1.8 kilometres north of 71st Street) is full, but even if it wasn't, the ground there is too soft for trucks at this point.
The Central Avenue site (four kilometres north of Attridge Drive) is closed as well.
Still open for users is the Valley Road snow dump south of the CN rail yards.
However, with warmer weather on the way, the access road and ground conditions at the dump itself are quickly deteriorating and it may need to close soon, with little advance notice, the city says.
It's been a busy year for the snow dumps after a winter with unusually heavy snow fall. Spring runoff is expected soon, and officials warn it could be a rapid melt, leading to all kinds of local flood problems.
Meanwhile, Regina's lone snow dump on Fleet Street in the northeast corner of the city remains open after being briefly closed late last week.
