An 18-year-old man is facing a charge of second-degree murder in a fatal stabbing last summer in Saskatoon.
The name of the accused has not been released. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on the murder charge on Wednesday.
Kenward Cote, 52, died July 27. At the time, police said Cote was walking with a friend in the 2000 block of 22nd Street West when he became involved in an altercation with two other men. Cote was stabbed during the fight and died. His friend escaped unhurt.
Police said the suspect was arrested at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre, where he was serving a sentence on an undisclosed but unrelated matter.
Cote, who was from Saskatoon, was the second homicide victim in the city in 2009. Since his death, police have reported two more homicides, a stabbing and a shooting.
